Drew X Coles is a producer, serial entrepreneur, speaker, researcher and educator with a focus on success, mentorship, and comprehensive musicianship.
Dr. Drew X. Coles is an educator, scholar, and higher education leader whose work centers on equity, access, and institutional transformation. He currently serves as Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Educational Opportunity Programs at Bard College, where he leads initiatives designed to support student success, strengthen inclusive campus communities, and advance systems-level change across the institution.
Dr. Coles brings a multidisciplinary background spanning student affairs, academic leadership, and the arts. Prior to his role at Bard, he served on the faculty at Teachers College, Columbia University, where he directed the Hybrid Master of Arts Program in Music & Music Education. He has also held executive leadership positions at the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam and led initiatives in arts administration and consulting across nonprofit and professional sectors.
As a scholar, Dr. Coles has published and presented widely on topics including pedagogy, identity, creativity, and institutional practice. His work often explores how individuals and organizations navigate growth, change, and meaning-making within educational environments. He is actively engaged in national service through editorial work, board leadership, and conference presentations across multiple academic and professional organizations.
Alongside his work in higher education, Dr. Coles maintains a longstanding connection to the arts as a performer, collaborator, and entrepreneur. This foundation continues to inform his approach to leadership—one that values creativity, adaptability, and human-centered design.
Across his roles, Dr. Coles is committed to guiding individuals and institutions through moments of transition, helping to build environments where people can thrive, contribute, and evolve.
